As a graduate of Parkland's Graphic Design program, I feel quite at home teaching in the department. As a student, I appreciated how well all the coursework fit together, and as an instructor, I try to further that continuity.

Good design is smart design. It's not important to know everything or never to be wrong; it's important to keep learning, to know how to find information, and to use design to communicate to your audience. Students in our program learn how to solve strategic marketing problems, not just make pretty pictures. They research, sketch, even create marketing briefs, just as professional marketers do, and then design pieces that communicate the intended message to the target audience. It's not enough to be able to draw; a good designer must be able to think and make intuitive leaps, and then bring an audience along with them. We do our best to teach our students how to do just that.
