Over the weekend figure out what you would like to make a poster for. Ideas: Urbana Public Library, Krannert Art Museum, Parkland College, Human Society, Habitate for Humanity, Your favorite cause, Any Retail Store.
You are the master of your own content. You will come up with a title, photographs and/or drawings, contact information and tag lines. More on this project later. Just begin thinking about it, gathering information and doing research. Visit your chosen place and pick up any material you can find - logos on business cards, flyers, website? etc...

1. your 7 designs (6 stills) and a place holder for the one that animates
2. GDS 108, Your Name, Exercise 1

Detailed Mockups of Poster Project.
Have THREE variations. Can include printouts, collages, digital mockups or sketchbook mockups. Thought and careful consideration of your elements is important. Think about organization of textual elements and grouping of information. Be aware of focal points and overall harmony in your layout. Look for good balance between all your elements.

Skills needed to finish part one of exercise one: Aligning objects in Illustrator. Using Guides. Selection tools, making masks, grouping objects. Also Introduce placing objects from photoshop and typography.

Read Tutorial Handout "Photoshop Character faces" Read this CAREFULLY - study the steps and if possible try it yourself before class on Monday. The more prepared you are the easier our exercises will go. Design/Plan/Sketch your own character face for our Monday exercise.

Poster Project:
Second Drafts due. Common industry policy is to have weekly meetings on projects. Therefore, every week you should be making progress on planning your poster projects.

It's necessary to evaluate your photoshop design and plan how you can execute it easily into HTML (we'll use Dreamweaver). We will decide the best way to modify your design to accomodate the technology. Be prepared to rebuild your Flash animation if you're design has become complex (keep it simple!)

Character Building using Shape Layers in CS2
Skills Learned:
Draw paths with Pen tool • Convert a path to a selection, and convert a selection to a path • Save Paths • Draw and edit layer shapes • Draw custom layer shapes • Import and edit a Smart Object from Adobe Illustrator.
