SUBJECT: David Jones Speech Contest Campaign
DATE: September 25, 2009
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to offer some recommendations
for the David Jones Speech Contest campaign for use by Parkland
College. The following is a summary of the objectives for this
project.
1. BACKGROUND: The David Jones Speech Contest has been held at
Parkland College for the past six years. It was named for David Jones
who was the Chair of the Fine and Applied Arts Department at Parkland
College. The contest is for students who are either enrolled or has
completed any Parkland speech course. The students prepare speeches on
any charity of their choice. The winner will receive $500 for
themselves along with $500 for their charity. The first place winner
of this contest receives $500 cash for themselves, and an additional
$500 for their charity. The other finalists also receive cash prizes.
This year’s contest will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.
in room
D105
2. TARGET AUDIENCE: The target audience is Parkland students who
are either enrolled or have completed Parkland speech course. Students
currently enrolled at the time of the contest are the most likely to
participate. Trying to get the students who have already completed
their class to take a chance and come back for the contest will be
the main challenge.
3. CHARACTER OF THE ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN: The goal of this
campaign should be to attract the students attention and make them want to
compete. The campaign should be energetic, fun, and warm, as well as
bold and artistic. It should stress on the benefits of this contest,
winning money for their choice of charity and for themselves. The
website needs to be easy to navigate and be clean.
4. APPLICATION: The campaign will include posters, flyers, a newspaper
ad, new website design, and possibly TV monitor ads. The posters
should be posted all over Parkland’s campus, especially near the
speech classes. The newspaper ad will be in the Prospectus. The
website design should be updated around the time the flyers are handed
out so the students can look up the information. The TV monitor ads
should flash across all the TV sets on campus closer to the contest.

Thank you again for this opportunity and we look forward to presenting
our design proposals to you soon.
