GDS 214 WEB DESIGN II
Objectives
Instructor: Paul Young

 

Purpose

This course is designed specifically for the graphic designer whose objective is to function effectively in today's commercial art field. In this class, we will gain practical experience in problem solving by working through the design process.

 

Emphasis

This course is structured around real-world visual communication design projects focusing on the Internet. In this class we will learn how to create dynamic web sites using various Macintosh applications. Focus will be on navigation, user interface design, information architecture, and creation of artwork for the Internet.

 

Graphic design skills

Some of the design skills we will be introduced to include:

  • The creative process
  • Applied design principles (unity, emphasis, rhythm, depth)
  • Systems of visual organization (balance)
  • Applied color theory
  • Research and using reference
  • Visual thinking and conceptual sketches
  • Dealing with form and content
  • Selecting and using stock illustrations and photographs
  • File management and computer etiquette
  • Information structure
  • Software proficiency in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash
  • Making presentations
