PC4U Graphic Design/Photoshop Workshop

Project: CD Package
Instructor: Paul Young

Objective

To apply Photoshop skills in the context of a creative assignment. To communicate ideas visually.

Description

What if you were in a band and needed to design a CD cover? Photoshop is the ideal tool to help you create this design.

Optional: Put your finished CD art inside this blank CD jewel case.

Procedure

1. RESEARCH AND REFERENCE: Find existing CD packages from your personal music collection and bring them to class to share with your classmates. Optional: download CD cover art from the Internet and publish them on your personal Google Page (be sure to cite the source of the art).

2. DEVELOP THE CONCEPT: Begin to sketch out ideas for this project (see examples of sketches ). Make up a name for your band. Determine what kind of music your band plays. Decide how you want to be photographed for the CD cover. Find costumes and/or props you need for the photo session and bring them to class (alternatively, find objects you want feature on the CD cover and being them in).

3. EXECUTION: Using Photoshop, translate your idea into a finished CD cover art. Choose the appropriate typography for your band's name. Print a color laser of your final CD cover art. Also generate a web-ready JPEG and publish your art on your personal Google Page.
